Although there is still more than a month left, it feels as though the year is almost over. During this time in previous years, I would reflect on the ups and downs of the past few months, pondering over how my year has unfolded.
I usually like to incorporate a short festive season retreat into this process to make it more official. It allows me to detach from the hectic daily routine and truly focus on reflecting and envisioning my future.
Every writer aspires to receive appreciation and connect with their own community, making it their ultimate goal. However, every time I review the subscriber report for The Human In You, my heart sinks.
And this serves as a reminder that I am not solely meant for this world. In recent years, I have noticed a decline in connection from my sunny home country of South Africa 🇿🇦. As a result, I can't help but wonder if South Africans read or simply hold a dislike towards me. Nevertheless, facing rejection from those closest to me feels like a devastating blow to my core.
I composed this article to comfort anyone who chances upon this post, urging them to understand that failures and rejections should never shape one's identity. As we approach the final month of 2023, my inner voice, my more mature self, consistently reminds me that this is not the life we intended to live. I am filled with anger and a deep sense of disappointment in myself, even before the year has come to a close...
